Kevin’s Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to bring food?

I provide food. I feed Purina Dog chow. But if your dog is used to a certain food then bring it. Or if your dog is on a special diet like puppy chow or senior diet or overweight management then please bring some with you and I will feed it according to your directions.

How often do you feed?

I can feed your dog once or twice a day according to your specific directions.

Do I need to bring a bed or blankets?

I have platforms and crates for the dogs to sleep on. I also have blankets for them as well. But once again if your dog has a special bed or crate or blankie that might make him more comfortable during his stay then by all means bring it. Also some dogs do well with something with your scent on it like a shirt or towel.

What about medications?

I can administer any medications your dog may require. There is a $1.00/day up-charge. I usually use liver sausage to get them to take their pills. The up-charge is waived for chewable tablets. I can also apply eye drops or ear drops or whatever your pet may need and as often as necessary.

What vaccinations are required?

All dogs must have current proof of Rabies, distemper combo and Bordetella. Bordetella is a vaccine to help prevent kennel cough, a sort of dog bronchitis. It is common and quite contagious when many animals are housed together under one roof. While kennel cough is rarely life threatening it can be expensive to treat. Note that these precautions are for the protection of your pet as well as all the others in my care. Please ensure your dog is up to date BEFORE your stay.

Do the dogs get to get out and exercise?

Yes. All kennels have inside and outside runs. Your dog can go in and out all day through a doggie door. There are also large exercise runs attached to both kennels. I take the dogs out at every 2-3 hours for playtime. These yards are fenced in so the dogs can run and play without being leashed. I have pools out in the summer for dogs who love to swim and have many balls and toys for them to play with. Very social dogs tend to really enjoy the excitement and activity involved with the kennel experience. In fact you may find that when you take your dog home he may be pooped out for a day or so while he unwinds from his vacation.

Do the dogs run all together or individually?

The rule is that all dogs run individually. This is to prevent any fighting that could develop between dogs that don’t know each other. Although I do allow group play for dogs that I know are friendly and get along. Some dogs really enjoy this. Some don’t.

I own two or three dogs. Can they stay together?

Yes, I have double runs where two to three dogs can stay comfortably. Dogs from the same family usually are more comfortable when they can sleep together. Even if your dogs don’t stay in the same kennel together I can run them together when they exercise. Sometimes separation can be in their best interests, like when a puppy comes in with an older dog.

We’ll be up at a resort in the area. Can we come visit our

pet during the week?

Yes. You can come and take your dog on day trips or to the lake if you’d like. Just let me know when. Also I request that you actually take him away for some quality time. Short visits just get everyone all riled up with no release.

How often are people at the kennel for supervision and care?

I live on site. Someone is near round the clock for your pet. So you need not worry about power outages or thunderstorms after normal business hours.

What are your hours for drop-off and pickup?

I’m up and out feeding and running dogs at 7 AM. Any time after that is fine. Note that if you pick up your dog before 9 AM then there’s no charge for that day. Pickups after 9 AM will incur a daily charge. NO drop-offs or pickups after 6 PM! This is because the dogs all get settled down for the evening by then. Any comings and goings at night just creates a commotion and unsettles the dogs. You want your pet to have a comfortable stay while he’s here so please be considerate of others. Note: if you drop your dog off after 4 PM then there’s no charge for that day. I have full hours on Sunday for pickups.

Do you allow Sunday pickups?

Yes. I have full hours on Sunday. Any time between 7 am and 6 pm.

Why would I bring my dog north when I can kennel him here

at home?

Money. Rates are better up here. Convenience. That’s one less stop before you get out of Dodge. Geography. I’m located one mile from Eagle River. This is probably closer than your home kennel is to your house. Plus there’s no traffic here. Your dog is close to you here. You can take him out for the day to play with you in the Northwoods. Your dog deserves a vacation too!!

Can I come visit and check out the facilities sometime?

Sure. Just give me a call at (715) 479-4188 or stop by. Our address is 4914 Hwy G; Eagle River, WI 54521.
